Robert K Danso Boakye is an Akyerema who completed O’Level in 1975. He attended sixth form at St John’s School, Sekondi where he completed A’Level in 1977. Robert has BA Economics from University of Ghana 1981, Msc International Banking and Financial Studies, Edinburgh Business School-Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, United Kingdom 1990 and was a PhD candidate Economics University of Surrey, Guildford, United Kingdom 1993/95.
Robert proceeded to City of London Polytechnic (now Guildhall University) Moorgate to attend summer school in International Banking and Finance in July /August 1981. This facilitated his doing the National Service at Social Security Bank (now Societe Generale) as Economic Research Officer in 1981/82. Thereafter, Robert was retained as a permanent staff in the Development Finance Division as a Project/Credit Officer from 1982 to 1988. In January 1989, Robert was selected as a Trainee Manager till September 1989 when he left to United Kingdom to pursue further education.
In December,1994 as a PhD candidate Robert accepted a job offer as Deputy Treasurer from Meridien BIAO Bank which eventually became The Trust Bank Limited. He held various positions which included, Deputy Head Corporate Banking, Regional Manager Northern Sector/ Branch Manager Harper Road Kumasi, Business Manager Commercial and Consumer Banking and Head of Domestic Operations.
Following the merger with Ecobank Ghana in 2012, he was appointed Head of Retail Operations a position he held till March 2017. Robert is now a Banking Consultant and was the Chief Operations Officer/Consultant for the GN Bank/Savings from July 2018 to September 2019. Robert has attended various training programmes/seminars in banking and finance and has travelled extensively around the world.
Robert is on several Boards which include St Jude Hospital Obuasi, Trust Care Hospital Kumasi and Holy Cross Technical Training Institute Takoradi. He is also a member of New York University African House and Centre for Technology and Economic Development CTED. Robert is married with five children. He is a football enthusiast, loves music, swimming and basketball. He played drums for the sixth form group Electron 8 ( the reconstituted famous Matthew Chapter 5 school band of St John’s School Sekondi). At the University of Ghana, Robert was entertainment committee chairman of Akuafo Hall for 1980/81 academic.
